There’s No Place Like Home distils a new narrative of the idea of home: intriguing and dysfunctional, classic, welcoming, seductive but also uncomfortable and political. Identity, dystopia and heterotopia coexist in works that question architecture, space, objects and functions. There’s No Place Like Home connects with the critical discourse of some of the most interesting experiments on the idea of domesticity, from Judy Chicago and Miriam Schapiro’s Womanhouse (Los Angeles, 1972) to the works of the Seventies by Dan Graham and Robert Smithson (California, 1972). Through this analytical perspective, There’s No Place Like Home deconstructs the stereotype of the bourgeois home and the power structures underlying the traditional idea of dwelling, unmasking the patriarchal, hegemonic and heteronormative matrices that inform it.
